Visiting Artist / Scholar Program

The John C. Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts will provide access to university libraries, research centers and our division’s facilities. The artists/scholar will be given a cubicle space in the faculty/staff area. The artist/scholar is invited to attend the weekly CTAN 522 Animation Department Seminar. Regular attendance in any additional CTAN (Animation) classes requires written approval by the Chair and will incur a fee based on USC graduate unit tuition rates. Auditing of classes including SCA classes is not permitted.
The residency is not funded and artists/scholars are expected to provide their own health insurance, living funds and travel arrangements as well as an administrative fee to cover the J1 visa application. Artists and scholars are responsible for finding their own accommodation in Los Angeles. Housing options are listed HERE. For artists and scholars interested in applying as a J-1 Scholar, please refer to the information HERE.
Applications are considered 1-2 years in advance of each Fall semester and need to consist of an outline or statement of plans, curriculum vitae, funding information, and online link to creative and academic work (website, YouTube or Vimeo). Applications for Visiting Scholars are for the academic year from Fall (late August) through Spring (mid-May) semesters only.
Please send applications to: visitingscholar@cinema.usc.edu
